How it all began

I was first introduced to exmoors when I joined the Edinburgh University Exmoor Pony Trekking Section in 2001. I was quickly sucked in by their fantastic personalities, mealy muzzles and hardiness. My interest was increased by visits to Heathpool farm in Peebles where I had the chance to meet many other exmoor enthusiasts and work with youngstock and stallions. I bought my first pony in 2004, with the others following closely!

It seems that its impossible to have 'just one' exmoor. My next mare, Cumquintyn, arrived from Peter Dean in 2005, and had Amelie the following July. I registered the Annasach Herd in 2006 and have so far bred three foals. 'Annasach' is a gaelic word meaning novel, dainty, unusual, new and strange. I named the herd after the ceilidh band I played in for many years, both because I loved the meaning of the name, and as a nice reminder of something that was a big part of my life. I finally got the chance to have my ponies 'at home' when I moved to Aberdeenshire last year to start my first job. Its been a pleasure so far to be involved with exmoors and the people who love them, and I hope to be breeding and enjoying the ponies for many years to come.
